| I started thinking about the nature of pornography the other day, because I came across a letter in an advice column in which a woman was complaining that her fiancé was a pornography addict. (She did not specify how often or how much constituted “addiction”) She said that she had confronted her fiancé and he agreed to stop, but then she discovered that he had resumed his habit. The advice columnist gave the standard reply: he needs to see counseling, they need to see counseling as a couple, and if he can’t or won’t fix his problem, then she needs to re-consider her commitment to this man. What struck me most was the tacit understanding that there was something fundamental wrong with this man for being “addicted” to porn.

| So one of the things that really fascinates me is the whole aesthetic, psychological and philosophical appeal of slash fanfiction. (Yes this is a great big cerebral wank, so ignore this completely if you don't like looking too close at your poison).
I've got some of my own ideas, based on some essays I've read, and obviously on my own examination of what appeals to me personally. I've love to get comments from others on what it is exactly that appeals to them.

| I've created this livejournal account because I'm a hopeless lurker/reader of fanfiction. So many excellent authors have started to friends-lock their journals that I am compelled to join up, even though I don't particularly have anything to share. (I will try to be a good little bee and provide feedback to authors from now on).
My current obsession is LOTR fanfic - RPS and FPS, almost entirely A/L and V/O. I first got hooked on slash several years ago when I started reading Buffy fanfic (both het and slash). | | comments: Leave a comment |
